Former middleweight title challenger Thales Leites was back tonight (Sat., Aug. 23, 2014) to continue his Octagon redemption tour against the struggling Francis Carmont on the main card of the UFC Fight Night 49: "Henderson vs. Dos Anjos" event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Leites had very quietly strung together three consecutive wins after his return just over one year ago while Carmont was hoping to avoid a three-fight skid.
Carmont was the superior striker in the opening frame, an admittedly slow paced back-and-forth tactical struggle. Leities looked out of his comfort zone considering where the bout was taking place.
Then, shockingly enough, he came out in the second round and was not only competent in his striking but downright impressive. He beat Carmont to the punch on a hard right hand that hurt the French-Canadian badly. The follow up onslaught of punches was enough to finish the job when a few found their mark.
That makes four in a row and the resurgence continues.
How far can this go?
