He was guaranteed to bank $31.5 million for his recent successful title defense against Marcos Maidana back in May 2014, and he did just that, combining to earn more than $72 million in a span of eight months. It's an absurd payday, one that mirros his record $41 million for defeating Canelo Alvarez back in Sept. 2013 (see that check pic here). We already knew Mayweather was the best paid athlete in sports today, but at this rate, the boxing champion is poised to SMASH his tally from 2013 ($73.5 million) with a disgustingly lucrative rematch against Maidana planned for Sept. 2014.
