What happened to UFC 176? Full 'Aldo vs. Mendes 2' cancellation round up for DOA PPV

Find out exactly what happened to UFC 176, and where the previously scheduled fights ended up after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) canceled the event.

Jason da Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was expected to stage a featherweight title fight in the headlining affair of the UFC 176: "Aldo vs. Mendes 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for tonight (Sat., Aug. 2, 2014) inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

It was not meant to be.

Instead of returning to "The City of Angels," the world's largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion will instead remain dormant until UFC Fight Night 47 on FOX Sports 1, taking place on Sat., Aug. 16, 2014 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine.

So ... what happened?

Here is your UFC 176: "Aldo vs. Mendes 2" cancellation round up, with details about the postponed bouts and where they can now be found.

Who: Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes 2
What: UFC 176
When: Saturday, August 2, 2014
Where: Staples Center in Los Angeles, California

Why It Was Cancelled: News broke in the beginning of July that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo had suffered an injury in training, which forced him out of the much-anticipated rematch against number one contender Chad Mendes.

With fights looming and top draws booked elsewhere, the promotion announced UFC 176 would be postponed, but it was more or less official that the event would be scrapped altogether.

After the neck injury to "Scarface" was revealed to be a minor one, forcing him out of action for only a few weeks, UFC President Dana White spilled the beans on their re-booked tussle, which now takes place at UFC 179 on October 25 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The only other event in UFC history to be cancelled was UFC 151.
