Sorry to all the mixed martial arts (MMA) fans who got their hopes up.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) sent its UFC 178 fight card into the shop for repairs (again) and today brings word that Donald Cerrone and Bobby Green will face off at the upcoming "Johnson vs. Cariaso" pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sept. 27, 2014 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cerrone (24-6, 1 NC) was first in line to face Khabib Nurmagomedov, who blew out his knee earlier this month. There was talk of stealing Eddie Alvarez from Bellator, but that failed to materialize, as well. UFC instead went with the sure thing and yanked Green (23-5) from his fight against Jorge Masvidal (27-8), who now faces fellow lightweight hopeful James Krause (21-5).
Got all that? Good.
UFC 178 will be headlined by flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who takes on top contender Chris Cariaso for all the marbles, while former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz gets back into action against Takeya Mizugaki. Conor McGregor, meanwhile, will make a quick turnaround to test his mettle against established featherweight threat, Dustin Poirier.
