Super Bowl weekend just got a hell of a lot more super.

What started as simple fantasy matchmaking has now become reality, as Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz will make their long-awaited returns to the Octagon, as the two former mixed martial arts (MMA) champions have been booked to battle at UFC 183 on Jan. 31, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC.com broke the news earlier today (July 29, 2014).

The super mega fight is scheduled to headline the promotion' annual Super Bowl weekend event in 2015, which means fight fans can potentially see the two talented fighters go at it for five rounds in a fight that will be contested at Middleweight.

I guess the money was right.

The announcement comes shortly after Diaz signed a three-fight deal with UFC, signaling the end to his self-imposed retirement from MMA. Listen to the Stockton, Calif.,-bred slugger talk about his return here.

The fight will mark Silva's return to action after suffering a broken leg during the second round if his rematch against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 back in Dec. 2013, an unfortunate ending that many feared would be the end of the brilliant Brazilian's MMA career.

As if.

While there has never been a history of bad blood between the two men, Diaz took it upon himself to advise "The Spider" to fire his striking coach and hire someone to teach him how to punch properly. I guess this guy wasn't getting the job done.

Indeed, the 185-pound contest between Diaz and Silva will see two of the most entertaining stand up specialists duke it out once and for all to see who really has the best technique of the two.

It's not a title fight, but Diaz, as well as the rest of the MMA community, will take it.
