Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes rematch rescheduled for UFC 179 on Oct. 25 in Rio

Proving Mendes is not a "pussy."

USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo appears to be on the road to recovery and will indeed fight Chad Mendes for a second time when they hook 'em up at the upcoming UFC 179 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is now official for Oct. 25, 2014, inside the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement at the UFC on FOX 12 post-fight press conference last Saturday (replay).

Aldo (21-1) hasn't lost in nearly nine years and already has six UFC title defenses to his credit. That includes a first-round knockout over Mendes (16-1) back at UFC 142 in Brazil. Mendes, meanwhile, has been destroying the competition since that loss to "Junior," winning five straight with four finishes.

They were originally expected to do battle at UFC 176, but that event was put on ice after Aldo tweaked his neck.

No other bouts have been revealed for the upcoming UFC 179 line up; however, more additions to this recently-announced fight card are expected in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned.
