In his fourth featherweight fight, Clay Guida took on Dennis Bermudez, who has been busy as a bee with six straight victories coming into tonight's (Sat., July 26, 2014) battle on the main card of the UFC on Fox 12: "Lawler vs. Brown" event at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
It was expected to be a frenetic, back-and-forth war.
Guida had the overhand right working while he was shooting in to wrestle. Bermudez, meanwhile, was firing off with big knees, one of which landed flush and cut Clay's face. Then, late in the opening frame, another big knee put Guida down.
But no finish.
Guida's eye was swelling up in the second, but he was coming forward with reckless abandon. At one point he was so reckless coming in that he got taken down, quickly mounted, and before long Bermudez had taken Clay's back and locked in a rear-naked choke.
"The Carpenter" had no choice but to tap.
