Thiago Alves injured, Brandon Thatch now meets Jordan Mein at UFC Fight Night 49 on Aug. 23 in Tulsa

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Same old, same old.

Former welterweight number one contender, Thiago Alves, who returned to the Octagon earlier this year with a dominant unanimous decision win over the gritty Seth Baczynski at UFC on FOX 11, has once again been injured and forced to withdraw from an event.

"Pitbull" hurt his knee, according to MMA Junkie, but will not require surgery.

Taking over for the Brazilian at the UFC Fight Night 49 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which takes place on Aug. 23, 2014 inside BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is top division prospect Brandon Thatch (11-1), who KOed Paulo Thiago with a knee to the body last November.

Thatch knows a thing or two about injuries.

Opposing him is Canadian "Young Gun" Jordan Mein (28-9), who grabbed a win last April in the "Sunshine State" by outpointing Hermani Perpetuo. The victory was his second inside the Octagon after transitioning from Strikeforce in March 2013.
