Conor McGregor proved the hype was justified, at least for one more evening, when he stopped Diego Brandao via TKO in the main event of today's (Sat., July 19, 2014) UFC Fight Night 46: "McGregor vs. Brandao" event at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland. It's just too bad it had to happen on UFC Fight Pass, the promotion's Internet only service, meaning the audience for what could have proven to be a star-making turn was less than desirable. Still, the response for him in his home country combined with his efforts inside the Octagon -- avoiding nearly all of Brandao's offense, including slipping out of submission attempts and eating kicks like they were nothing, before scoring a first round stoppage -- will go a long way in assisting the UFC in promoting a man who could be a big star in the MMA world. He talks big, but he backs it up. For more on "McGregor vs. Brandao" click here, For complete UFC Fight Night 46 results and blow-by-blow coverage of all the night's action click here.
