Both Donald Cerrone (three wins) and Jim Miller (two) came into their fight tonight (Wed., July 16, 2014) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 45 at the Revel Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, thinking they were maybe one fight away from a title shot. An impressive enough performance here might even catapult one all the way to top contender status.
Go get you some, Cerrone.
The first round saw Miller find success getting inside while Cerrone was firing up the middle with hard knees. By the end of it, they had engaged in a firefight and it was anyone's fight for the taking.
There was an odd spot in the second when Cerrone landed a hard kick to the body that put Miller down. When "Cowboy" attempted to follow up with a knee, the referee stepped in to stop him on account of thinking the kick was too low. Miller played it up like a groin shot but the first replay appeared to show he took one in the body.
The referee, in a bizarre turn, decided not to give Miller the full five minutes to recover as they would with normal groin shots and the fight restarted.
From there, Cerrone continued to assault the body. Miller was in obvious pain but he continued on for as long as he could, which didn't turn out to be long.
That's because "Cowboy" landed a stiff kick to the head that put Miller down for good.
Wow.
