UFC Fight Night 42 results: Ben Henderson submits Rustam Khabilov

A smooth submission victory for the former champion.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

The main event of tonight's (Sat., June 7, 2014) UFC Fight Night 42: "Henderson vs. Khabilov" showcase at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Fox Sports 1 featured former Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson hoping to maintain his ranking at the top of the division against Rustam Khabilov.

Test: Passed.

Henderson struggled a bit early, pressing forward with strikes and getting taken down multiple times for his troubles. The good news was he was always "Smooth" on the bottom, quickly escaping back to his feet any time he was in a bad position.

He also kept the pressure on, relying on his deep gas tank to out pace Khabilov, wearing him down and opening him up as the bout wore on. It took until the fourth frame -- a round Rustam had never been exposed to in the UFC -- but Henderson finally landed a beautiful combination uppercut followed by a straight left hand.

It dropped the Russian and when "Bendo" came down, he was on his back with a wide open neck in front of him. He wrapped his arms around it and squeezed until the tap came.

It took just a few seconds.

Just like that, Khabilov is headed back to the drawing board while Henderson is hoping to continue knocking off contenders while Anthony Pettis heals up from injury.
