Conor McGregor is so confident that his fellow countrymen will be so eager to see him fight Cole Miller Diego Brandao at UFC Fight Night 46 from the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland on July 19, 2014, that he's willing to bet a title shot on it.
Speaking to Fighters Only, "Notorious" reveals that he made a bet with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White that the event, which airs exclusively on UFC Fight Pass, will be the fastest-selling event in UFC history.
His claim:
"I want the whole of Irish MMA to capitalize on this. I want an entire generation to follow me. But I'm still quite young and I'm only getting started. This means everything to me. I'm not here to make up the numbers. This is the first UFC Fight Night to go on FOX. FOX TV in America want this fight because they know what it means. This will be the fastest selling show in UFC history. We've got terrestrial TV in Ireland to show this fight as well. I am shooting right to the top. I texted Dana and bet him a title shot that this is the fastest selling event in UFC history."
Of course, that's an easy bet for McGregor to make, seeing as he he doesn't really have anything on the line, as he is nowhere close to title contention. A win over Brandao, however, will inch him closer.
But should he indeed get through "DB" in front of his hometown crowd, Conor will likely need a couple more wins over higher-ranked opponents to get his much-desired crack at the division crown which is currently in the possession of Jose Aldo.
No word on whether or not White, a very successful gambling man, actually took McGregor up on his offer.
