Well, there's two ways of looking at this.
Either Frankie Edgar is a god among featherweights, or BJ Penn is a washed-up tomato can. I'm not sure how else to explain the recent betting line from 5 Dimes (via Best Fight Odds), which has "The Answer" at -1050 for their Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 19 Finale showdown, which takes place next Sunday (July 6, 2014) inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada (more on that here).
"The Prodigy" limps in at +550.

Things are a little more levelheaded over at Bovada and SportBet, but still, that's real money we're talking about. Has the Hawaiian, once good enough to hold titles in both divisions, fallen that far off? Probably not, but he's still a massive underdog come fight night.
For good reason.
Edgar holds two unanimous decision wins over Penn. After stripping him of the title at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, "The Answer" defended his 155-pound strap in their UFC 118 rematch later that year in Boston. In addition, "The Prodigy" hasn't competed since late 2012 and has just one win over the last five years.
He certainly has an uphill battle.
Expect these lines to shift dramatically later this week as the late money starts to roll in, but in the meantime, I'm curious to hear from the mixed martial arts (MMA) fans out there -- particularly those folks who like to slice a little cheddar before each fight -- on these latest numbers.
Crazy talk?
