Hector Lombard injured, Tyron Woodley vs Dong Hyun Kim to co-headline UFC Fight Night 48

An injury to Hector Lombard has caused a shake-up to the welterweight bout scheduled for UFC Fight Night 48 in Macau, China, later this summer. Tyron Woodley will now step up on relatively short notice to take on Dong Hyun Kim in what is expected to be the co-main event of the evening.

Another unfortunate injury has caused a change to a big Welterweight match up set for UFC Fight Night 48, which takes place at The Venetian in Macau, China, on Aug. 23, 2014.

Earlier this morning, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White posted on his personal Instagram account that he recently met with Dong Hyun Kim to "officially" let him know that Tyron Woodley will be facing him after his original opponent, Hector Lombard, suffered an injury and will not fight on the card.

Lombard would've stepped into the bout looking to add to a two-fight win streak that saw him notch dominant victories over Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields. His fight against "Stun Gun" would've been a bout between two of the most acclaimed Judo practitioners in UFC today.

Kim comes into this bout riding a four-fight win streak, and could be knocking on the door to a title shot should he notch a win over the highly-ranked Woodley. He has received a lot of support from fans in his recent fights thanks to violent knockouts of Erick Silva and John Hathaway, the latter ending with a rare spinning back elbow.

Woodley will look to quickly bounce back from a miserable losing effort against Rory MacDonald in which he lost a unanimous decision at UFC 174 just last week. Taking this fight with two months to go is not really "short notice" so to speak, but the quick turnaround is definitely a little unexpected.

Nonetheless, this will make for an interesting match up between two of the best fighters the 170-pound division has to offer.

In addition to Kim vs. Woodley, UFC Fight Night 48 features a Middleweight main event between Michael Bisping and international action movie superstar Cung Le.
