With his heart-wrenching family situation seemingly stable, Joe Lauzon can now focus on furthering his eight-year Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career.
The New England native will return to action against Michael Chiesa at UFC Fight Night 50, which is scheduled for nearby Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledyard, Conn., on Sept. 5, 2014, according to BostonHerald.com.
It will not serve as the main event, but rather a main card match on FOX Sports 1.
Lauzon recently snapped a two-fight losing skid, outpointing Mac Danzig on all three judges scorecards at UFC on FOX 9 in Dec. 2013 en route to a unanimous decision. Prior to the win, Lauzon dropped back-to-back decisions to Jim Miller and Michael Johnson, the former considered among the best mixed martial arts (MMA) bouts of 2012.
Chiesa, meanwhile, is in the midst of a two-fight win streak, submitting Colton Smith (rear-naked choke) at UFC Fight Night 31: "Fight for Troops 3" in Nov. 2013 and decisioning Francisco Trinaldo at UFC 173 this past May.
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 winner struggled the last time he took a marked step up in competition against Jorge Masvidal (submission loss) one year ago and will once again be in the same position when he takes on the crafty Lauzon.
No additional matches are announced and/or rumored for UFC Fight Night 50 at this time.
