The main card of tonight's (Sat., June 14, 2014) UFC 174: "Johnson vs. Bagautinov" pay-per-view (PPV) at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, kicked off with Canadian ass kicker Ryan Jimmo taking on beefy brawler Ovince St. Preux.
It was supposed to be fun.
It was.
The two met in the center of the cage at the referee's prompting and proceeded to unload the heavy artillery. These big dudes were throwing bombs and they were hitting their target, oftentimes with a sickening thud. A lame grappling stalemate stole a few minutes of the opening round, but they resumed face punching quickly enough and Jimmo went to his corner bleeding from the nose.
Shortly into the second frame, St. Preux earned a takedown and worked for a submission. It was hard to tell exactly what happened but Jimmo had his arm twisted in a manner it's not supposed to and he verbally tapped out, saying his arm was broken.
That was that.
And that was weird.
