UFC 176: Derek Brunson vs. Lorenz Larkin booked for Aug. 2 in Los Angeles

Strikeforce in the house!

Joshua Lindsey-USA TODAY Sports

Hot-and-cold middleweights Derek Brunson and Lorenz Larkin will hook 'em up in a 185-pound affair for the upcoming UFC 176: "Aldo vs. Mendes 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on Aug. 2, 2014 inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Los Angeles Daily News reported the 185-pound match up on Monday.

Brunson (11-3) stormed out of the gate and racked up two straight wins after joining the world's largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion in late 2012. Unfortunately, he was unable to capitalize on back-to-back'rs over Chris Leben and Brian Houston, and got stopped by Yoel Romero last January.

The loss also resulted in a fractured jaw.

Larkin (14-3) could be fighting for his job in "The City of Angels," considering he's sitting unpretty in an 0-2 hole. In fact, "The Monsoon" is just 1-3 under the UFC banner, with a unanimous decision win over Chris Camozzi being his only measure of success since April 2013.

Do or die!

UFC 176 will be headlined by a featherweight match up pitting Jose Aldo against Chad Mendes, in a championship rematch from their UFC 142 encounter in Brazil, which "Junior" won by knockout.

Elsewhere on the card, Fabricio Camoes and Gray Maynard hook 'em up in lightweight action, while Shayna Baszler and Bethe Correia settle their rivalry in women's bantamweight action.
