MMA-Maine-ia: ZUFFA makes 'Vacationland' debut with UFC Fight Night 47 on Aug. 16 in Bangor

Bangor? I hardly know her!

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

After working on it for over a year, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White will finally bring his mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion to Bangor, Maine, with UFC Fight Night 47 on Aug. 16, 2014, inside the 6,000 capacity Cross Insurance Center.

White graduated high school in "The Pine Tree State" back in 1987.

A measure passed by the House and Senate back in 2009 established the "Mixed Martial Arts Authority of Maine" to regulate and promote MMA competitions, exhibitions and events with five governor-appointed members assigned to the authority.

Events became legally sanctioned on March 1, 2010, and to date have seen a bevy of regional promotions, including Bellator MMA, make their mark in the tip of New England. For White, it was imperative that his "Vacationland" debut be held in a modern facility equipped to handle a live UFC event.

No fights have been revealed for UFC Fight Night 47 at this time, which is expected to air on FOX Sports 1, but you can bet one person is already ringing ZUFFA headquarters.
