UFC on FOX 12: Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira booked for July 26 in San Jose

Cue the "Nog will get injured" jokes in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wasted little time in capitalizing on the success of Anthony Johnson, a former welterweight who was reborn at 205 pounds with sensational results.

Just ask "Mr. Wonderful."

"Rumble" made his Octagon return at UFC 172, after a flawless run on the regional circuit, and upended top division contender Phil Davis at the "Charm City" pay-per-view (PPV) event last month (April 26, 2014) in Baltimore, Maryland (see the video here).

Johnson (17-4) has proved he can deal with world-class wrestlers ... but what about world-class grapplers?

We'll find out when he tangles with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5), in a light heavyweight battle booked for the UFC on FOX 12 event inside the SAP Center in San Jose, California. "Minotoro," who is also an accomplished boxer, has a win over Johnson's Blackzilians team mate Rashad Evans from early 2013.

In fact, that's the last time anyone has seen or heard from Nogueira, thanks to his struggle to stay healthy. "Little Nog" was paired off against Alexander Gustafsson late last year, but was bounced with a bad back and relegated to the sidelines.

As well as the punchlines.

But all that can change with a big win on July 26 in San Jose, though he's likely to have his hands full after such a long layoff when you consider the momentum Johnson is enjoying in his new weight class.

Time will tell.

No other fights have been announced for UFC on FOX 12 at this time, but you can expect that to change sooner, rather than later.
