Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight Stefan Struve has finally received medical clearance to return to the Octagon, and will do so against Matt Mitrione at the upcoming UFC 175 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for July 5, 2014, inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC announced the 265-pound pairing late Wednesday night.
Struve (25-6) has been sidelined with a heart condition for over a year (details) and hasn't seen action since getting his jaw jacked by Mark Hunt in Japan. Prior to being stepped on by the "Super Samoan," the towering "Skyscraper" strung together four straight wins.
All of them finishes.
Mitrione (7-3) has struggled in recent years after a hot start to his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. "Meathead" was able to put Shawn Jordan on ice last January in Macao, but his "Savage" victory was just the second across a span of five fights.
The former Ultimate Fighter turns 36 this summer.
UFC 175 will feature middleweight champion Chris Weidman defending his 185-pound strap against new division number one contender Lyoto Machida. In the co-headliner, Ronda Rousey defends her bantamweight belt against Alexis Davis.
