In what is almost guaranteed to be a terrific battle, two of the most electrifying Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight standouts will lock horns this Saturday (May 10, 2014) when Matt Brown returns from injury to face Brazilian phenom Erick Silva in the main event of UFC Fight Night 40.

The FOX Sports 1-televised card, which is set to go down at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, will also feature a Middleweight bout between striking specialists Lorenz Larkin and Costas Philippou, as well as a Lightweight bout between Erik Koch and Daron Cruickshank.

It'll be a fine way to spend an evening. Even finer, however, if we can make money in the process:

Thoughts: Most of these fights have enough unpredictability to be worth betting on, but I do like the line on "Sapo" Natal.

In my opinion, Herman hasn’t really looked good in a fight since 2011, which is when he submitted Kyle Noke. In his two wins since, he got beaten up in the first round by Clifford Starks and his fight against Scott Smith was a slow-paced brawl. His wrestling’s not there anymore and he’s just slow all around.

I expect Natal to pack more power on the feet and win the wrestling exchanges for a wide decision win.

Thoughts: While I admit that Silva’s ground game is a huge advantage, I don’t think he’s been consistent enough in UFC to warrant being such a big favorite. Though Brown has been historically vulnerable to submissions, he is also an absolute beast on the feet and one of the few in the division who can keep up with Silva’s high-octane offense.

In addition, he figures to be the more durable of the two as well, traditionally showing excellent cardio, an area that has cost Silva in the past.

Again, Brown’s tapped out nine times, but I believe Silva’s willingness to engage on the feet will be his undoing as soon as he slows down.

Medium-sized bet on Brown makes sense to me, perfect sense to the incensed "Immortal."
