Floyd Mayweather Sr.: Ball-bashing, head-butting Marcos Maidana fought Floyd like MMA fighter

Last weekend (Sat., May 3, 2014) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Marcos Maidana gave Floyd Mayweather all he could handle during their championship boxing match (watch video highlights here).

And even though "El Chino" came up short on the judges' scorecards, he received plenty of praise from the fight community for giving "Money" what the majority of his previous foes hadn't: A real fight.

With his aggressive, never back down attitude, Maidana proved he was worthy of sharing the ring with Mayweather. Unfortunately, not everyone is giving the Argentinian credit; in fact, Floyd Mayweather Sr. says the fight was nothing more than a "masterful boxer" (Mayweather) taking on a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter (Maidana).

And Sr. didn't mean that in a positive manner.

Check out what he had to say to Hustle Boss (via Bloody Elbow):

"I think it was a superb, masterful boxer fighting an MMA fighter. He was an MMA fighter! He hit him in the balls, he hit him all around, on his hips, hit him in the back of the head, head-butted his eye, and beat him in the back of the head. Man, c'mon. Maidana doesn't deserve nothing (credit). With all that stuff that Maidana did, hitting below the belt, twisting the arm, hitting behind the head, hitting him with the head and busting that eye, if I was Floyd, I wouldn't fight him again."

And you thought Jon Jones had a bad rep for fighting dirty.

Even though Maidana landed an illegal groin shot on Mayweather during their match, Floyd Sr. labeling "Chino" an MMA fighter for the move, is what's really hitting below the belt.

Perhaps he's is still stuck in the dark ages, where below the belt shots and headbutts were allowed.

And as talks of an instant rematch for later this year between the two pugilists get under way, Floyd Sr. strongly advises his son not to take another bout against the dirty scrappy Argentinean.

But, I can think of $70 million reasons "Money" would be down to run it back.

While some prominent boxing trainers have embraced the sport of MMA with open arms, Floyd Mayweather Sr, it seems, still views it as an all out dirty brawl and hasn't realized the the sport has evolved over the last 20 years.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
