Looks like Sept. 5, 2014 will be a busy night for Indian reservations in Connecticut.
That's because Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced its upcoming UFC Fight Night 50 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1 from the Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledyard, the same night Spike TV airs its Bellator 123 fight card at Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino in Uncasville.
UFC has yet to announce any potential match ups for the fall event, while Bellator -- which kicks off its eleventh season on Sept. 5 -- has booked just one fight to date, a middleweight match up pitting former UFC light heavyweight James Irvin opposite Brennan Ward.
Coincidental timing?
Bellator was in the news earlier this week for its better-than-expected pay-per-view (PPV) buys, with the final tally for Bellator 120: "Rampage vs. King Mo" resting somewhere in the 65-100,000 range, depending on the source. Shortly thereafter, UFC booked a new event in the same state on the same night.
