The main card of today's (Sat., May 31, 2014) UFC Fight Night 41: "Munoz vs. Mousasi" event from O2 World in Berlin, Germany, airing live on UFC Fight Pass, featured the lanky Luke Barnatt looking to continue his run of impressive performances against young gun Sean Strickland.
Nope.
As the bout got underway, it very quickly became painfully boring. Pawing jabs and lame leg kicks did little to quell the crowd's thirst for violence. At the sound of the horn to signify the close of the opening round, boos rang out through the arena.
They bothered to engage in meaningful action in the second, comprised mostly of Barnatt pushing the action and backing Strickland up against the fence. He scored with hard shots but so did his opponent.
Patience was the name of the game in the final frame, much to the chagrin of the Berlin faithful. Strickland was cut and circling away from Barnatt's offense for most of the round while attempting takedowns where he could. A couple leglock submission attempts came up lame late and the bout closed with Barnatt firing away while Strickland landed jabs and nothing more.
In fact, his inactivity may have been due to injury.
The horn sounded on the bout and the judges were called on to make a decision.
Scores: 28-29, 30-27, and 29-28 in favor of Strickland.
That's an ... interesting decision. Right?
