Are you ready for war?
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will send its top two welterweight sluggers into battle when Robbie Lawler throws hands opposite Matt Brown in the main event of the upcoming UFC on FOX 12 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, scheduled for the SAP Center in San Jose, California, on July 26, 2014.
UFC President Dana White announced the 170-pound bangfest earlier today.
Lawler (23-10) is fresh off a technical knockout victory over Jake Ellenberger at the UFC 173 pay-per-view (PPV) event last weekend (Sat. May 24, 2014) in Las Vegas, Nevada (video highlights here). Stopping "The Juggernaut" got him back into the win column after a razor-thin decision loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC 171 back in March.
Brown (19-11) is also coming off a big win his last time out, sending Erick Silva to the emergency room earlier this month in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the UFC Fight Night 40 headliner on FOX Sports 1. Finishing off the Brazilian marked win number seven for "Immortal," a streak that includes six finishes.
The winner of "Lawler vs. Brown" has been promised the next welterweight title shot, depending on the timetable for Hendricks' return from bicep surgery.
Assuming it holds up, UFC on FOX 12 is shaping up to be an insane fight card, one that will also feature a light heavyweight throwdown pitting Anthony "Rumble" Johnson against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, while Michael Johnson and Josh Thomson bang it out in lightweight action.
You dig?
