Labor Day Weekend ... do work son.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is hoping to schedule the Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson light heavyweight championship rematch for the upcoming UFC 177 pay-per-view (PPV) event, according to ESPN, which takes place on Aug. 30, 2014 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Sorry, Sweden.
Nothing is official at this time as "Bones" has yet to put pen to paper (he's too busy trolling). After a dominating five-round unanimous decision win over Glover Teixeira last month in Baltimore, Maryland, the reigning 205-pound champion (20-1) has straight-up refused to "talk about that kid."
The same "kid" who took him to the limit back at UFC 165 in Toronto.
Gustafsson (16-2) held up his end of the rematch bargain by blowing away Jimi Manuwa in the UFC Fight Night 37 event back in March. That was his first appearance since sending Jones to the hospital and cementing himself as the second baddest man in the division.
For now.
"The Mauler" was calling for an immediate rematch not long after the dust cleared from their first go-round, but Jones was dismissive of the towering Swede and instead made the "badass decision" to face Teixeira, something that led Gustafsson to believe the champ was ducking him.
And until we get a Jones Hancock, it will be hard to dispute that allegation.
