Thailand has a brand new mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion and it's called Full Metal Dojo. The inaugural event is set for June 7th on the tropical island of Phuket and will feature a mixture of amateur and professional fights with seven bouts in total.
MMA is booming in Phuket with a number of renowned fighters including Mike Swick, Brian Ebersole and Roger Huerta based there permanently and camps like Tiger Muay Thai, Phuket Top Team and AKA (Thailand) going from strength to strength.
While there are plenty of people training MMA in Phuket they have previously had to travel elsewhere to compete, but that is all set to change with the launch of Full Metal Dojo which promises to host regular events in the renowned red light district of Patong.
The promotion is the brainchild of Jon Nutt, a former bouncer and bounty hunter from Boston who has been living in Thailand for nearly a decade and he says it will be aimed at the local audience.
"We are about to take this beautiful island and the sport of MMA to another level with our brand new professional MMA promotion. For far too long, MMA in Thailand has been geared towards an English speaking audience. We aim to break that trend, flip it on its head and bring MMA to the real Thai mass audience. Get ready to enter... the Full Metal Dojo."
Full Metal Dojo's inaugural show is taking pace at Phuket's biggest nightlub, Seduction in Patong, on June 7th and the fights will be available to view online immediately after. For more information click here.
