It's time for another edition of Buzzfeed!, breaking down UFC Fight Night 40: "Brown vs. Silva," which takes place TONIGHT (Sat., May 10, 2014) from U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Here is everything you need to know about the mixed martial arts (MMA) event that takes place later this evening.
Without further ado, let's get to it.
Who: Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva
What: UFC Fight Night 40
When: Saturday, May 10, 2014
Where: U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio
Why It Matters: Is it unfair to say this event doesn't really matter in the long run? It's another night of free fights, yet nobody's getting a title shot or reinventing the wheel, either.
What's Hot: It's the second time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) visits Cincinnati and Ohio's own Matt Brown will undoubtedly engage in a violent war against Erick Silva. The main event is definitely the best fight on the card and it's probably not going five rounds.
What's Not: The event as a whole isn't really all that special. This is one of those events where you can easily record and watch Sunday morning while nursing your hangover.
Plus, we're going to get to the "Prelims" below, but there are a handful of notable fighters who should be on the main card instead of the preliminary broadcast. Bouts such as Eddie Wineland vs. Johnny Eduardo, Manvel Gamburyan vs. Nik Lentz and Ed Herman vs. Rafael Natal are surely going to be worth watching before the main card, yet on a card like this one, those fights should have made the FOX Sports 1 (FS1) broadcast.
New Blood: The lone debutant on this card is former EFC Africa heavyweight champion Ruan Potts, who has his hands full against Soa Palelei. "Fangzz" enters his bout with an 8-1 record.
Original Card vs. Actual Card: There were only two modifications for this event, as Yan Cabral will now be facing Zak Cummings after his original opponent Alexander Yakovlev opted to fill in for Mike Pierce against Demian Maia at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil 3 Finale.
William Macario pulled out of his bout against Neil Magny and he's being replaced by Tim Means. Their fight takes place on the main card.
How The "Prelims" Look: Since the combatants we previously mentioned are worthy of spots on the main card, it means these preliminary fights aren't too shabby at all.
The FOX Sports 2 (FS2) headliner will be Herman vs. Natal and the co-main event features Kyoji Horiguchi vs. Darrell Montague. Other fights on the FS2 broadcast include Cabral vs. Cummings and Wineland vs. Eduardo.
The "Fight Pass" main event sees Manvel Gamburyan battle Nik Lentz, while Justin Salas meets Ben Wall. Kicking off the action will be Bellator veteran Anthony Lapsley vs. Albert Tumenov.
Who Needs A Win Badly: Lapsley, Montague, Wall and Tumenov risk going 0-2 inside the Octagon this weekend and if they don't bring forth an inspiring performance, they could be on the chopping block.
"Short Fuse" has to win against Natal, because if he doesn't, he would only have one win out of his past five bouts.
Koch risks going 1-3 if he can't get past Cruickshank, but all eyes are on Philippou who is trying to avoid a three-fight losing skid.
If you really want to be picky, "The Immortal" has to get past Silva if he wants his winning streak to mean something in the welterweight title picture.
Interest Level: 6.5/10
It's not the worst night of fights we've ever received, but it's certainly not a strong card. Some preliminary fights are better on paper than a couple of main card scraps and apart from the main event, there aren't any other fights that could be deemed mandatory to watch.
