The main event of tonight's (Sat., April 26, 2014) UFC 172: "Jones vs. Teixeira" pay-per-view (PPV) from the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, featured Light Heavyweight phenom, Jon Jones, putting his 205-pound title on the line against a man, Glover Teixeira, riding a 20 fight win streak.
The UFC hype machine tried to tell us the Brazilian represented the toughest test to date for the 26-year-old king of the Octagon.
The UFC hype machine lied.
The opening round featured Teixeira spamming the overhand right with little to no success while Jones varied his offense -- stiff jabs, body kicks, head kicks, takedowns, and especially elbows from all angles -- and generally looked like the champion dealing with his latest challenger with relative ease.
Actually, that was the story of the entire fight.
In fact, it became clear by the end of the bout that Greg Jackson's words between rounds four and five -- "This is an artistic fight, Jon" -- rang true. He was always going to win, and win is what he did.
He's just that damn good.
Can anyone beat this guy, Maniacs?
