The main event of today's (Sat., March 8, 2014) UFC Fight Night 37: "Gustafsson vs. Manuwa" showcase at the O2 Arena in London, England, broadcast on UFC Fight Pass, featured top light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson hoping to earn another crack at Jon Jones in a battle against heavy handed striker Jimi Manuwa.
This one was hot from the get go, or at least the crowd was. It made for a great atmosphere despite the low key nature of the card stateside.
Manuwa popped an early jab and Gustafsson moved in for a takedown sooner than most thought he would. He completed it, too, despite the threat of a guillotine that was never followed through on. He couldn't do much from there, however, and Manuwa showed there's plenty of fight in him by getting back to his feet and battling it out to end the round.
Then, in round two, it happened.
"The Mauler" used his length after getting inside and landed a big knee. That stunned "Poster Boy" and when Gustafsson realized he had his foe hurting badly, he moved in for the kill.
A series of hard punches, including one big uppercut, ended Manuwa's evening. Looking up at the lights is no way to go out, but he looked competent before falling to the top 205-pound contender in the world.
