This Saturday (March 8, 2014), two living legends will collide for a second time when Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (22-7, 12 KOs) and Remy Bonjasky (98-12, 36 KOs) square off in the main event of GLORY 14: "ZAGREB" in a much-anticipated kickboxing rematch.
Much to the chagrin, most likely, of Fedor Emelianenko.
Nonetheless, the event, which takes place in Zagreb, Croatia -- "Cro Cop's" home turf -- airs in the United States on SPIKE TV at 9 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. PT.
Bonjasky looks to avenge an earlier loss to Cro Cop, who scored a technical knockout win over Bonjasky back in 2002 at K-1 World Grand Prix. While their respective careers took different paths since their first fight, the decorated duo will come full circle this Saturday.
In the meantime, GLORY asked some other household names of the sport for their thoughts on this heavyweight clash of kickboxing royalty.
Here are the results:
Tyrone Spong: "I think Crocop will win just because he's fighting at home but never count Remy out he might be able to win the fight by points."
Alistair Overeem: "Interesting fight. Mirko 'CroCop' won the first one though some thought the stoppage was a bit controversial. Since then they trained together several times and so they definitely know each other's game and will plan accordingly. It is hard to predict a winner, so I therefore wish both gentlemen the best of luck."Bas Rutten: "Looking at recent form, ‘CroCop' has won his last ten kickboxing fights whereas Remy is on an 0-3 run, though Remy has been facing really tough opposition and most fans felt the decision went the wrong way in his last fight. Still, I think the win will go to Mirko again. Probably a decision this time since Remy will know to avoid that left head kick."
Ernesto Hoost: "We all know that Cro Cop has that famous high kick, which is a dangerous weapon. If Remy can avoid those, I think he will win on points. But if the fight ends in a (T)KO, I will go with CroCop."
Michael Duut: "I think Cro Cop by decision. You can't really knock Remy out, only Tyrone Spong managed it at GLORY 5 but that was really the first clean KO of Remy's career. There is a lot of pressure on ‘Cro Cop' in this one because he is fighting in front of his home fans. It will be a hard fight."
Artur Kyshenko: "Tough question. Anything can happen in a fight, this is a fight under GLORY rules so there's a lot of striking, and you're talking about heavyweights which means they both have power. It is very difficult to make an accurate prediction here. I'm just going to watch the fight!"
Danyo Ilunga: "For sure Remy will win this fight, he is well prepared and he has trained very hard. This will be one of the biggest ‘legend' fights of the year. Remy is a legend and so is Cro Cop. On their current levels, I think Remy wins this one for sure.
