Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has finally booked a headlining act for its upcoming "Fight Night" event at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 10, 2014, scheduled to air on FOX Sports 1 and Fight Pass.
And it's a doozy.
After spending the last seven months on the sidelines with a bum back, Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 standout Matt Brown will return from the injured reserves to battle Brazilian wunderkind Erick Silva, according to FOX Sports, in a welterweight battle that could have serious title implications in the 170-pound division.
Bang, meet fest.
Brown (18-11) is holding steady at No. 8 in the official UFC rankings (see them here), winning his last six fights and finishing five of them by way of knockout or technical knockout. Silva (16-4), meanwhile, got back into the win column just last month by pounding out Takenori Sato in Brazil.
Once touted as the future of the division, "Indio" now has the opportunity to win two fights in a row for the first time since stepping foot inside the Octagon in late 2011, though that's likely to be easier said than done against the "Immortal" Brown.
Time will tell.
In addition to "Brown vs. Silva," the upcoming "Fight Night" event in "The Queen City" has already penciled in a half dozen other fights, including Ed Herman vs. Rafael Natal and Manny Gamburyan vs. Nik Lentz. Stay tuned for future fight announcements as they become available.
Until then, let's get some early predictions on this fan-friendly fight. Any way these guys make it to the scorecards?
