Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has booked a lightweight contest featuring Yves Edwards vs. Piotr Hallmann for the upcoming UFC 173 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for May 24, 2014 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC announced the booking earlier today.
It has been a rough couple of years for Edwards (42-20-1, 1 NC), who would be looking at a three-fight losing streak, had Yancy Medeiros not flunked his post-fight drug test (details). Nevertheless, the "Thugjitsu Master" is just 2-4 prior to coming up short against "The Kid."
And at 37 years old, he's not getting any younger.
Like Edwards, things haven't exactly been going according to plan for Hallmann (14-2), who was upended by Al Iaquinta in his sophomore effort last October. It may have been nothing more than a temporary setback for "Pletwal," depending on how well he performs against the crafty veteran.
Hallmann has 13 finishes in 14 wins.
UFC 173 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight featuring undefeated champion Chris Weidman, as he puts his 185-pound title on the line against new division number one contender Lyoto Machida. Elsewhere on the card, Chris Holdsworth tangles with Kyung Ho Kang, while Doo Ho Choi throws hands opposite Sam Sicilia.
