World Series of Fighting (WSOF) returns with another installment of mixed martial arts (MMA) action, invading Hard Rock and Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada for WSOF 9: "Carl vs. Palhares."
MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of the WSOF 9 main card fights TONIGHT (Sat., March 29, 2014), beginning with the NBC Sports telecast at 9 p.m. ET. In addition, we'll deliver up-to-the-minute quick results of all the preliminary card action much earlier in the evening (beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET).
Headlining WSOF 9 is the welterweight title bout pitting the reigning champion Steve Carl against former UFC notable Rousimar Palhares.
In the co-main event, the inaugural bantamweight title fight is set featuring Marlon Moraes against Josh Rettinghouse.
Rounding up the main card is former UFC middleweight title challenger Yushin Okami against Svetlozar Savo, along with a welterweight clash between Josh Burkman against Tyler Stinson. Lastly, opening up the NBC Sports broadcast is Ozzy Dugulubgov against Johnny Nunez.
The night of action kicks off TONIGHT (March 29, 2014) at 6:00 p.m. ET with the "Prelims" bouts that will be streaming live right here on MMAmania.com. Steve Carl vs. Rousimar Palhares
Round 1: Palhares lands the takedown right away, avoiding Carl's right hand. Palhares in the guard, and Carl doing a good job of keeping it closed. Palhares trying to shake Carl off. Carl looking for the rubber guard, and Palhares already catches him in the leg lock. Palhares cranks it, and Carl taps. Just like that.

Marlon Moraes vs. Josh Rettinghouse
Round 1: Moraes clocks him with a leg kick, and drops him with a right hand. Rettinghouse starts attacking with a single leg, and Moraes starts to deck him with punches. Rettinghouse still clinging on to the legs, and Moraes lets him back up. They go the to center, and Rettinghouse nails him with a right hand. Rettinghouse shoots, but Moraes starts to attack his back. Rettinghouse shifts, and ends up taking Moraes down. Rettinghouse lets him back up, and they're back to trading. Moraes attempts a head kick. They both miss punches. Rettinghouse attacks the legs. The horn sounds.
Round 2: Rettinghouse kicks to the body, and goes to the head. Moraes sweeps his legs and Rettinghouse falls. The latter is back up, eager to trade with the Brazilian. Rettinghouse attacks to the body, and Moraes lands a quick jab. Moraes attempts a head kick, but no avail. Moraes lands a nice leg kick. Both are cautiously trading, picking their shots accurately. Short, quick combo from Rettinghouse that lands. Moraes goes for another leg kick. Rettinghouse storms in range and lands a nice punch. Rettinghouse lets his hands down, changing stances. He lands a takedown, but Moraes is back up right away. Moraes with another leg kick. Moraes staggers him with a right hand, and Rettinghouse taunts with his hands up.
Round 3: Moraes working the leg kicks still. Rettinghouse goes high with a head kick. Takedown stuffed by Moraes. Nice jab from Moraes. Jab from Rettinghouse. Nice right hand from Rettinghouse, and Moraes kicks his legs hard. Rettinghouse cocks backwards, and again. He's in pain. Moraes simply trying to attack Rettinghouse's left leg, which is blood red. Another kick, and Rettinghouse holds his leg. Moraes hunting him down, shifting his kick to the body. Uppercut and right hand lands for Moraes. Another leg kick from Moraes. Another leg kick from Moraes, and Rettinghouse shows that he's in pain. Moraes goes to the head, and to the leg again. Spinning head kick attempt from Moraes, and he lands another kick to the legs. Rettinghouse is down, covering up. Moraes punching, and going for knees to the body. Moraes looking for a choke, but his opponent survives.
Round 4: Moraes lands a leg kick right off the bat, and Rettinghouse shoots to the ground. Moraes is circling around, waiting for him to get up. Rettinghouse can barely stand. Rettinghouse still has his hands up looking to fight. Moraes acting very cautiously here, and Rettinghouse lands a single leg takedown. But, Moraes is back up and clocks Rettinghouse with a jab. Rettinghouse throws himself on the ground, trying to stalk Moraes. The Brazilian isn't throwing much, but circling instead and looking for an opening. Rettinghouse throws a kick and falls, but Moraes is having any of it. Moraes lands a nice right hand. Moraes lands a jab. Rettinghouse's calf is purple and red. He's very flat footed, and has trouble circling. Moraes isn't throwing as many leg kicks, which is strange. Moraes now throwing a kick to the opposite leg. A nice counter right from Moraes lands. Rettinghouse attempts a spinning kick, but Moraes puts him on the mat by kicking the other leg.
Round 5: Moraes goes low yet again. Rettinghouse locks him up, but Moraes shoves him on the ground. Rettinghouse is back on his feet, with Moraes just fighting smart and not rushing forward. Rettinghouse is still trying to throw, but he can't even touch Moraes. Another leg kick from Moraes, on the opposite leg. Quick jab from Rettinghouse, and Moraes goes low again. Moraes goes to the body. Not much action from both. Rettinghouse goes for another takedown. Another low kick from Moraes. Rettinghouse goes for a head kick and falls, but Moraes tells him to get back up. Moraes landing some big body shots, and goes to the head with an uppercut. Rettinghouse throwing a flashy kick, looking for anything to put away Moraes. The Brazilian lands a takedown to end the fight.

Yushin Okami vs. Svetlozar Savov
Round 1: Both fighters a little hesitant to come forward. Savov attempts a high kick. Savov misses with an overhead right. Okami staying very patient. Savov lands a decent punch, but he makes the mistake of getting caught in Okami's body lock, and the Japanese fighter takes him down ferociously. They're close to the fence and the smothering begins. Savov gripping Okami's neck, but Okami is working well with punches. Okami looking for a side choke, as Savov is just barely hanging on off his back. Okami in mount, trying to break free from Savov's hold. Okami hasn't been able to land a clean, hard shot. Okami working with short, quick punches now, as Yves Lavigne is looking closely. Savov hangs on for the second round.
Round 2: Savov is keeping his distance, attacking and using his reach. Okami isn't buying into Savov's wild kicking attempts and takes him down with ease. They're in the center, with Okami in side control. Okami transitions to mount, landing some short punches to the dome. Savov is hanging onto Okami's body like a child holds onto their parent, clearly unable to do anything with Okami on top. Okami flattens him out, and tries to work the ground and pound. Okami stands back up, and avoids the upkicks to go right back to the ground. Savov is having great difficulty this far. Okami transitions into an arm triangle, and Savov taps a few seconds later.

Josh Burkman vs. Tyler Stinson
Round 1: Burkman commences very cautiously. Stinson pressing forward, and they have a sloppy exchange. Burkman circling well, and Stinson isn't rushing. A few kicks to the legs from Burkman. Burkman lunges forward with a combo and eats a punch. Burkman going in wildly, finishing off his combinations with a right haymaker that doesn't land. Nice head kick from Stinson, but it isn't too powerful. Stinson attacking with a few jabs, and Burkman completely floors Stinson with a right hand. Burkman goes to attack him, but Stinson is just out cold after a second punch.

Ozzy Dugulubgov vs. Johnny Nunez
Round 1: Nunez rushes forward and catches one of Ozzy's kicks. They're tied up against the cage, and Nunez puts Ozzy on his back. Nunez is hanging out in half guard, working with punches from top position. Ozzy makes his way back up, and they're clinching against the fence. Ozzy has Nunez pitted against the fence, landing a few knees. They both hit the mat for a moment, but they're back up instantly. Nunez is trying to find a way out with knees, but it's not working. Ozzy has a strong lock on the body, and secures the double leg. Nunez has his back against the fence, with a weak arm-in guillotine. Ozzy pokes out of it, not doing much. Ozzy attacks with a heel hook out of nowhere, and Nunez storms out of it. They're back up against the fence, with Ozzy scoring another takedown before the horn sounds.
Round 2: Nunez presses forward again, and Ozzy goes for the takedown. Nunez counters, and locks Ozzy in a d'arce choke. Ozzy is hanging on, and Nunez releases the pressure. Ozzy pushes Nunez forward, and drives him right up to the fence. Nunez goes for the guillotine, and Ozzy gets out of it by pushing off the cage with his feet. He hopes onto Nunez's back, and while looking for a rear-naked choke, he's punching Nunez and staying active. Ozzy is still hanging onto his back, and Nunez scrambles out of it. They're back on their feet, but not for long, as Nunez ties Ozzy up against the cage. Ozzy reverses positioning. Not much action with both fighters tied up, just a bit of dirty boxing. Ozzy goes for the double leg and gets it right before the end of the round.
Round 3: Both fighters looks sluggish on the feet right now. Uppercut lands for Nunez, and he scores a massive takedown, dropping Ozzy hard on the mat with a double leg. Nunez is in half guard, shoving his elbow in Ozzy's face. Some more elbows and fists from Nunez, but no power shots yet. Ozzy is defending well off his back, disabling Nunez from doing anything significant by neutralizing his posture. Nunez is trying to pass into side control, but it's not working. Ozzy makes his way closer to the fence, and attacks with a leg lock after creating some space. Nunez postures up, and attacks with a guillotine, but it's a bit weak. Ozzy takes advantage and scores another double leg. He takes Nunez's back quite easily, and attacks with a rear-naked choke. Nunez is doing well so far. Nunez starts to scramble out of it, but Ozzy is holding on. The horn sounds.
