Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has booked its upcoming UFC on FOX 12 mixed martial arts (MMA) event for Sat., July 26, 2014, inside the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
San Jose Mercury News announced the upcoming date and venue on Thursday night.
Formerly the HP Pavilion, the SAP Center is no stranger to combat sports. Strikeforce broke the all-time attendance record for an MMA fight card in North America in 2006 when 18,265 fans turned out to see "Shamrock vs. Gracie," easily besting the previous record of 14,562 set the year before by UFC 52: "Liddell vs. Couture 2" at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Strikeforce is no more, but San Jose continues to be a regular haunt for UFC and its band of merry men (and women).
In fact, American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) is just around the corner, which houses some of the promotion's finest combatants, including Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, and Luke Rockhold, among others. Velasquez was actually on hand last night inside the "Shark Tank" to shake hands and kiss babies to kick off the UFC on FOX 12 media push.
