Bellator season 10 continues tonight with "Shlemenko vs. Ward" live from Maverik Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, TONIGHT (Friday, March 28, 2014) on Spike TV.
In the main event, Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko will attempt to defend his title against season nine tournament winner Brennan Ward.
Shlemenko is undefeated since 2010 and with a victory over Ward will notch up his third defense of the Bellator 185-pound strap. Ward is riding a freight train of momentum into this fight, having recorded decisive finishes in all three of his tournament bouts.
Elsewhere on the card, the semifinal round of the featherweight tournament will be contested as Desmond Green takes on Will Martinez, and Daniel Weichel faces off against Matt Bessette.

185 pound title fight: Alexander Shlemenko vs. Brennan Ward
Round one: Shlemenko lands kick to the body early. Ward charges in to no avail. The champ throws a right hook over the top. Spinning back kick from Ward. Thai plumb and knees from Shlemenko, but Ward takes him down for a split second. Ward lands a takedown and gets Shlemenko's back. He's working for a rear naked and gets a crank. They're stalled in an awkward position with nothing happening and the ref stands 'em up. Ward lands a nice left hook and Shlemenko lands a kick. Shlemenko lands a great left of his own, but Ward takes him down and looks for another rear naked. He doesn't get it and rides out the round throwing strikes.

Round two: Ward lands a nice left hook at the start. Shlemenko in like a bulldog landing shots to the body. Another kick to the body lands for the champ. Ward goes for a takedown, and before you know it Shlemenko gets him to tap with a slick guillotine.
Final result: Alexander Shlemenko defeats Brennan Ward via guillotine choke submission at 1:22 of the second round.

145 pound tournament semifinal: Desmond Green vs. Will Martinez
Round one: Green comes in with some awkward punches and Martinez lands a nice low kick. Martinez backs him up against the cage and lands a right hand that rocks Green, who immediately shoots for a takedown and gets it with ease. Martinez wall walks and they're clinching against the cage now. They break. Green gets another takedown but Martinez pops up. Green throwing more volume of those sloppy punches but Martinez landing the cleaner, more technical strikes, though they aren't as frequent. Martinez sleepwalks his way into a Green takedown, where "The Predator" is content to stay in guard and throw some punches. Martinez lands a nice upkick.

Round two: Green charges in with a flurry of strikes, but Martinez catches him with a left coming in that rocks him. Green goes for another takedown attempt, but it turns into some humping a waist cinch and knees against the cage. Anyone got any gifs of grass growing I can watch instead? That would have to be more entertaining than this. Right as I type that, Green lands a nice suplex. Green landing some ground and pound from Martinez's guard. Martinez keeps attempting to throw up subs, but nothing happening.

Round three: Martinez plants himself against the fence in an attempt to get Green to counter punch. Who does he think he is, Anderson Silva? Green charges in an lands a right that rocks Martinez, but then he backs up. Martinez lands a left hook. They trade mostly inconsequential shots for a minute or so. Lots of swinging and missing here. Martinez lands a left hand and Green goes for a takedown that Martinez stuffs. Green lands a takedown at the end of the round. Dull ending to a pretty forgettable fight.

145 pound tournament semifinal: Daniel Weichel vs. Matt Bessette
Round one: Bessette kicks Weichel, but the German catches it and sends him to the ground. Weichel in guard now. He lands a few nice right hands. Weichel lands more hammerfists. Bessette active from his back. Weichel stands up and comes down with another punch. The German advances to half guard and lands some more shots. He goes for an armbar, but nothing there and they end up on their feet. Bessette throws some punches inside, but Weichel clinches against the cage. Bessette landing knees at the bell.

Round two: Bessette opens with some kicks and an overhand right. Bessette charges in again but Weichel lands to the body. Weichel catches a kick and shoves Bessette to the ground. He's back up though and the fight on. Bessette throwing more, but not landing a ton. They clinch and Weichel lands some knees to the body. Bessette with a kick to the body. Right hook lands for Bessette. Weichel looks slower this round. Bessette comes forward with another overhand right. Bessette grabs a Thai plumb and some knees to the body.

Round three: Bessette active again at the start of the round with strikes. Weichel grabs a Thai clinch and lands a nice knee. Weichel takes him down and lands some shots from guard. Bessette can't get back to his feet and Weichel is scoring with punches. Rinse and repeat until the end of the round.

185 pound tournament semifinal: Kendall Grove vs. Brett Cooper
Round one: Cooper takes the center of the cage, but Grove far more active with strikes early, throwing punch combos and low kicks with rapidity. Cooper lands a left hook. A leg kick from Cooper catches Grove off balance, but he reacts quickly and takes Cooper down. Now Grove has his back looking for a rear naked. Cooper punching behind his head. Cooper attempts to sweep, but Grove maintains control. Punches from "Da Spyder" from behind as he locks in the body triangle. Am I the only one who thinks of Freddy Krueger's sweater when I look at Grove's multicolored mohawk? Gorve unloading on him now with huge ground and pound shots. Quite the beatdown there at the end of the round.

Round two: Cooper lands a nice uppercut charging in on Grove to start the round. And another. Grove clinches and works fro the takedown. Nice 1-2 jab lands for Grove. Overhand right from Cooper finds its mark. Cooper continues to work his punches in close, and lands another nice uppercut to Grove's jaw. Grove clinches and lands a knee and Cooper lands a left. Right hand from Cooper drops Grove. He's all over him like stink on the inside of a hog barn with punches. Cooper unloading with shots and Grove goes out.
Final result: Brett Cooper defeats Kendall Grove via knockout at 3:33 of the second round.
