Anderson Silva admits boxing match against Roy Jones Jr. is unlikely to happen

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva tried to book himself into a boxing "super fight" against aging pugilist Roy Jones Jr., and he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids bosses.

From his conversation with Brazilian talk show "The Noite" (via Bloody Elbow):

"I don't think this is going to happen. It's not an idea politically well received by Dana and Lorenzo. I'm trying, I always bring that subject but they are irreducible. It would be historical Roy spanking of me but this is my dream. He is also very excited to do this but it is a business issue. In a 0 to 10 scale I'm 9 right now. The doctor said I just can't jump and run. I could fight again this year but because of personal projects I should just come back in 2015, even though my family isn't happy about it, they wanted my retirement. I have eight more fights in my contract but it says that I could stop fighting right now if I want."

Silva has been trying to make this happen for the last six years.

But signing a 10-fight contract is probably not the best way to go about getting a fight in the "sweet science." And "The Spider's" stock is down after getting knocked out by Chris Weidman at UFC 162 last July. Speaking of the "All American," his checked leg kick sent the Brazilian to the hospital with a broken shin.

It has been a rough couple of months for Silva, who is not expected to return until the first half of 2015.
