Longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Dan Henderson looks to get back into the win column in tomorrow night's (March 23, 2014) UFC Fight Night 38 event on FOX Sports 1, which takes place inside Nelio Dias Gymnasium in Natal, Brazil (see the preview here).
Against Mauricio Rua, a familiar foe.
Henderson first battled his fellow PRIDE FC import in the main event of UFC 139 back in 2011. His "Fight of the Year" candidate was the last time the former middleweight recorded a win, having since dropped his next three contests, including a pair of split decisions to Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans.
Then came a devastating knockout loss against the revitalized Vitor Belfort.
Rua (22-8) is 2-2 during that same span. After rebounding with a technical knockout win over Brandon Vera, "Shogun" dropped consecutive bouts to Alexander Gustafsson and Chael Sonnen. With his future at 205 pounds in jeopardy, the Brazilian roared back to crush James Te Huna.
Now he tries to get one back against "Hendo" in front of his hometown crowd.
To get fans amped for this weekend's big shebang, the promotion has released their entire 25-minute war from UFC 139, which blew the roof off the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. While both men looked worse for the wear, it was Henderson who escaped Silicon Valley with the "W."
