Three new names made the Welterweight Top 10 rankings, a dramatic makeover than can be attributed to a 170-pound-heavy UFC 171, as well as the imminent return of a former top contender from self-imposed mixed martial arts (MMA) retirement.
The SB Nation rankings panel -- compiled by MMAmania.com, MMA Fighting and Bloody Elbow -- recently reshuffled its list of top Welterweight MMA fighters for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and beyond to close out the month of March.
Johny Hendricks claimed the UFC division title, earning a decision over Robbie Lawler in a close contest that keeps "Ruthless" in the No. 2 position. Tyron Woodley -- who picked up a technical knockout victory over Carlos Condit on the same card because of an in-fight injury -- vaulted to the No. 3 spot.
But, is that enough to warrant next crack at "Bigg Rigg?" Time will tell.
Hector Lombard creeped into the "mix" thanks to figuring out the riddle that is Jake Shields, who dropped several slots and almost out of the Top 10. And poor Dong Hyun Kim still gets no love even after his annihilation of John Hathaway in Macau despite a gaudy overall record (19-2) and a four-fight win streak that includes two back-to-back knockouts.
I tried!
