Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has booked a middleweight match-up featuring Lorenz Larkin up against Costas Philippou as part of the promotion's upcoming "Fight Night" event at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 10, 2014.
UFC announced the 185-pound pairing earlier today.
Larkin (14-2) has struggled to gain any kind of footing since graduating from Strikeforce last April. "The Monsoon" dropped his UFC debut to Francis Carmont, but was able to rebound with a unanimous decision win over Chris Camozzi his next time out.
Unfortunately, he went down on points against Brad Tavares to kick off his 2014 fight campaign and now stands at 1-2 inside the Octagon.
Another loss could result in a pink slip.
That holds true for Philippou (12-4), as well. The former top contender -- once the winner of five straight -- has since fallen on hard times, dropping two in a row. That includes a high-profile knockout loss to former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold at the same FOX Sports 1 event that saw Larkin fall to Tavares.
Loser leaves town?
The upcoming "Fight Night" event in "The Queen City" does not have a main event (yet), but has already penciled in a half dozen fights including Ed Herman vs. Rafael Natal and Manny Gamburyan vs. Nik Lentz. Stay tuned for future fight announcements as they become available.
Until then, early predictions on Larkin vs. Philippou?
