Bantamweight title bout between Bibiano Fernandes and Masakatsu Ueda headlines ONE FC: ‘Rise of Heroes'

Who is the best 135-pound fighter not competing in UFC? We will find out later this spring in Manila.

ONE FC’s two top bantamweights will meet in Manila on May 2, 2014, as dominant Brazilian champion Bibiano Fernandes takes on Japanese challenger Masakatsu Ueda in the main event of a card held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

ONE FC: "Rise of Heroes" will see Fernandes (15-3) defend his unified belt for the first time and make his fourth appearance in the ONE FC cage. Ueda (18-2-2) has also won three fights out of three for ONE FC recently winning the promotion’s 135-pound grand prix.

Fernandes is the former DREAM 135 and 145-pound champion, emerging triumphantly from eight man tournaments to win both titles and is also a multiple time black belt jiu-jitsu world champion. He has established himself as the most dominant fighter in Asian MMA, but faces his toughest test yet against Ueda.

The Japanese fighter is a former Shooto 132-pound champion who has only tasted defeat twice in his eight year career and has wins over the likes of Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas, Kyoji Horiguchi and Royler Gracie, among others.

Two more bouts were announced for ONE FC: "Rise of Heroes" this week including a featherweight rematch between Yusuke Kawanago (13-3-2) and Rob Lisita (13-5). The two fought for the Legend FC title in 2012 with the Japanese fighter defending his belt at the expense of the Australian courtesy of a unanimous decision win.

The third fight to be confirmed is a flyweight encounter between Gianni Subba (3-0) and Eugene Toquero (4-1). The undefeated Malaysian has spent his entire career competing for ONE FC but faces a step up in competition against the Filipino who was outpointed by Geje Eustaquio in his last fight.
