Pablo Popovitch issues statement on Thiago Silva arrest: 'He seemed to be under the influence of some type of drug'

The man caught in the middle of the domestic dispute between Thiago Silva and his wife, Pablo Popovitch, finally breaks his silence about Thursday night's bizarre incident.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Thiago Silva was taken into custody on Thursday night (Feb. 6, 2014), after being arrested for aggravated assault, stemming from an incident that happened involving his ex-wife in and around the Pablo Popovitch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

See a copy of the police report here.

Today (Feb. 7), Popovitch broke his silence regarding his involvement in the dispute, which saw Silva drive up to the grappling school and brandish a weapon, prior to allegedly threatening to shoot the place up, while appearing to be "under the influence of some type of drug."

Popovitch details the account on his official Facebook page:

Concerning the incident that took place at Academy last night. During our evening class, at around 7:45pm. Thiago Silva was outside sitting in his car honking the horn non-stop. Thaysa went outside to talk to Thiago to understand what was happening and saw a gun. After that, I went to see what was happening and also saw that he had a gun. He seemed to be under the influence of some type of drug whether alcohol or drugs. My staff notified the police at that time, and soon after the police arrived. He took off and the police went after him.

Thaysa has been separated and living alone since December of 2012. Thiago has been charged with battery in the past and was seeing other girls and moving on with his own life.

It's very unfortunate that this had to happen, the last thing I wanted us to see Thiago in this manner. I wish him all the best and hope this will soon be over.

Silva has two failed drug tests on his mixed martial arts (MMA) record (see them here and here).

The embattled slugger is currently being held without bond after the court deemed him a flight risk, as well as a threat to the community (see video of his court proceeding here). While he escaped a more serious charge of attempted murder, the Brazilian still has a lot to answer for, least of which are his two counts of aggravated assault.
