Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold looks to notch his second straight win under the ZUFFA banner when he takes on 185-pound slugger Tim Boetsch at the upcoming UFC 172 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place inside Maryland's Baltimore Arena on April 26, 2014.
UFC brought word of the upcoming bout earlier today.
Rockhold (11-2) was calling for a fight against Michael Bisping following his knockout win over Costas Philippou last month in Duluth, Georgia; however, the promotion had other ideas, pairing "The Count" against Tim Kennedy at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Nations" live finale on April 16.
Perhaps these two are destined to meet later this year.
Or not, as Boetsch (17-6) can still play spoiler. "The Barbarian" was able to rebound from his unanimous decision loss to Mark Munoz by squeaking by C.B. Dollaway via split decision at the UFC 166 event last October, snapping a two-fight losing streak in the process.
No doubt a win over Rockhold would get him right back in the mix.
UFC 172 will feature the return of 205-pound champion Jon Jones, as he attempts to defend his light heavyweight strap against Glover Teixeira. Elsewhere on the card, Jake Ellenberger will emerge from the injured reserves to scrap with Tarec Saffiedine, while Jessamyn Duke tries to make it two in a row opposite Bethe Correia.
