Super Bowl 2014 final score and recap: Seahawks beat Broncos, 43-8; Malcolm Smith wins MVP

Recapping and wrapping up MMAmania.com's coverage of Super Bowl XLVIII, in which the Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos, 43-8, in New Jersey in a blowout that solidified the former's defense as one of the very best in a long, long time.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Last night (Sun., Feb. 2, 2014) the Seattle Seahawks did what few thought they could -- at least according to the betting lines -- and not only defeated the Denver Broncos to win Super Bowl 48 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but blowing them out by a final score of 43-8.

And Malcolm Smith, who 9 tackles, one fumble recovery, and an interception (that he returned 69 yards for a touchdown), won the MVP award.

The game started with a safety on the very first snap and the Seahawks were never tested after. Denver ran for just 27 yards, turned the ball over four times, and failed to contain WR Percy Harvin, who had 134 yards on just four touches during the game.

That includes an 89 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half.

Put simply, Seattle proved its number one ranked defense was significantly better than Denver's top ranked offense. Broncos QB Peyton Manning may have posted record breaking numbers in the regular season but he was no match for the "Legion of Boom".

There's always next year!
