TUF Brazil: Chael Sonnen returning to middleweight following disposal of Bum-derlei Silva

It looks like "The American Gangster" might be going back to the middleweight division after he settles his beef with "The Axe Murderer" at light heavyweight.

USA TODAY Sports

Chael Sonnen isn't opposed to having two fights on his agenda at the same time.

After agreeing to meet Wanderlei Silva once they fulfill their duties as coaches for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Brazil 3," Sonnen signed on the dotted line to face Rashad Evans at UFC 167, which went down last November, long before he and "The Axe Murderer" were scheduled to meet inside the cage.

Now, "The American Gangster" tells Combate.com (via Bloody Elbow) that he already has another fight in his sights, this time after he gets done taking care of business against his bitter rival.

And it's one that will take him back to the middleweight division.

"I already have my next fight settled but two things need to happen. There is a fight that needs a specific result. I also need to get rid of this bum (Wanderlei). There are some things happening now but I hope everything walks well for both sides, then I will have another fight aligned in the middleweight division."

Sonnen also explained why his fight against "The Axe Murderer -- which was originally announced for UFC 173, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 24, 2014 -- was moved to a "Fight Night" event that will take place a week later (May 31)in Brazil.

His words:

"That was because of me. He wanted to fight in Las Vegas because is where he lives, his house is there. And I denied, I wanted to be in a neutral place. I'm a guest in Brazil but so is he. The UFC thought I was kidding and I said no, I was not kidding. He abandoned these guys 15 years ago, Brazil is a neutral territory, we both are going to fly there, and the UFC said Ok."

Indeed, Sonnen has made it a habit to question Silva's loyalty to his home country in the past.

But according to UFC President Dana White, the UFC 173 booking was never confirmed, but rather a boo-boo on behalf of the public relations team.

Nevertheless, Sonnen has his wish as he will look to end his beef with Silva in the Brazilian's native country before going down to 185-pounds to meet his next foe.

Any guesses as to who it will be?
