The complete list of UFC 170 fighter injuries and medical suspensions for those who competed at the "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) event this past Saturday night (Feb. 22, 2014) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, were released to MMAmania.com earlier today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
And the notable fighters who were selected from the list of walking wounded might surprise a few mixed marital arts (MMA) fans.
That's because Rory MacDonald, who rallied from bad first round to put a beating on Demian Maia for the final two frames, could be on the bench for up to six months if a disclosed ankle injury is not cleared by a doctor. He might want to re-visit the witch doctor who helped him not miss a beat when he put a knife through his hand in training cooking.
Stephen Thompson, too, could face an extensive layoff because he may have significantly injured his hand in the midst of putting his stamps on Robert Whittaker (watch video highlights here).
Patrick Cummins and T.J. Waldburger, meanwhile, who got their eggs scrambled by Daniel Cormier and Mike Pyle, respectively, are looking at just three-week timeouts.
Whatever.
Here is the complete list of UFC 170 fighter injuries and their medical instructions.
- Sara McMann: Suspended until March 25, 2014, no contact until March 16, 2014.
- Patrick Cummins: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014.
- Demain Maia: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014.
- Rory MacDonald: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a right ankle injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension until March 25, 2014, and no contact until March 16, 2014.
- T.J. Waldburger: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014.
- Stephen Thompson: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a right hand injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner.

- Pedro Munhoz: Suspended until March 25, 2014, no contact until March 16, 2014
- Raphael Assuncao: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of an injury to left ribs unless doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension until March 25, 2014, and no contact until March 16, 2014.
- Cody Gibson: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a right hand injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner.
- Aljamain Sterling: Must have follow up MRI on his head before March 1, 2014.
- Rafaello Oliveira: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014, because of a contusion under right eye.
Again, just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
