Nick Diaz calls for immediate UFC title shot, insists he's the only draw left in MMA

Awwww snap, the UFC welterweight division has just been put on blast!

Not really.

Former 170-pound title contender, Nick Diaz, was clomping around the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, last night (Feb. 22, 2014) during the UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) event (results), likely to support Ronda Rousey in her (successful) quest to retain her bantamweight strap.

And after that?

Diaz held court with the mixed martial arts (MMA) media, insisting that he was ready to come back and fight for a division title, because he's the only draw left in combat sports, as evidenced by how many pay-per-view (PPV) buys Georges St. Pierre he garnered his last time out.

From his conversation with FOX Sports:

"I've been fighting for 11 years. I already did all those [contender] fights. I don't have to take a warm-up fight. Why would I take a warm-up fight? To help somebody out? To bring them to my level? I've already been through all that and you still didn't see me take an ass whipping. I don't care, I'm talking about a title fight match-up. Bottom line, I'm the only draw here. Bottom line. We had like the third biggest [pay-per-view]. That wasn't just because of Georges St-Pierre. And these guys aren't doing that. People want to pay to see me fight, they want to see someone get knocked out or someone get tapped out, or they want to see me get my ass whooped like they've been waiting to see but they still don't get to see."

The king is dead. Long live the king!

Unfortunately for Diaz, the man charged with his return -- UFC President Dana White -- said the wily Stockton slugger was "not even in the picture" and the idea of bringing him back to challenge the winner of Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler in the wake of UFC 171 was "not even worth talking about."

But we'll talk about it anyway, because that's what we do.

Diaz (26-9) may not warrant an immediate shot at the welterweight title, but if Lawler derails "Bigg Rigg" in the "Lone Star State," expect to hear some chatter from the blogosphere about that fateful night back in 2004 when "Ruthless" when to sleep at the hands of you-know-who.

Until then, consider Diaz retired.
