UFC 170 results: Ronda Rousey liver shot stops Sara McMann

This stoppage will be debated for a long time to come, but Ronda Rousey has defeated Sara McMann at UFC 170.

In the main event of tonight's (Sat., Feb. 22, 2014) UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ronda Rousey retained her bantamweight championship title by stopping Sara McMann in the first round of their 135-pound showcase.

But the stoppage will be debated for a long time to come.

The two battled back and forth for a couple minutes, with McMann showing promise by avoiding getting thrown around like a rag doll the way so many others have before her. She was getting lit up in the clinch, though, suffering some pretty severe elbow strikes.

Then, a big knee to the body. Then, another one that landed straight to the liver and put McMann down. She went down hard enough and fast enough that the referee for the fight, Herb Dean, decided to immediately stop it.

McMann, for what it's worth, stood right up and acted like she was 100-percent fine.

The fans showered the cage with boos. No one felt like it was a definitive finish to what was shaping up to be an incredible fight with Rousey taking on an opponent who could actually grapple with her.

Instead, we get controversy.
