The Brazilian Athletic Commission (CABMMA) today issued its list of injuries and medical suspensions for those fighters participating in the UFC Fight Night 36: "Machida vs. Mousasi" event, which took place last Saturday night (Feb. 15, 2014) at Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Not too bad, all things considered.
Most of the mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters competing on the FOX Sports 1 main card, as well as the Fight Pass "Prelims," were sat for a couple of weeks for precautionary reasons, with the exception of Lyoto Machida, who jacked up his foot after five rounds of action against Gegard Mousasi (pic) and has been sat for 180 days -- or until his doctor clears him for combat.
Shouldn't take long (based on this).
Here is the full list of UFC Fight Night 36 medical suspensions (via MMA Junkie):
Suspended 45 days (30 days no contact):
Takenori Sato
Cristiano Marcello
Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact):
Gegard Mousasi
Nicholas Musoke
Viscardi Andrade
Andy Ogle
Rodrigo Damm
Ivan Jorge
Francisco Trinaldo
Jesse Ronson
Albert Tumenov
Douglas de Andrade
Suspended 14 days (seven days no contact):
Ronaldo Souza
Francis Carmont
Erick Silva
Charles Oliveira
Joe Proctor
Yuri Alcantara
Wilson Reis
Felipe Arantes
Maximo Blanco
Ildemar Alcantara
Zubaira Tukhugov
Again, just a quick reminder: Fighters (like the aforementioned Machida) can and often do return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
