Former UFC light heavyweight Vinny Magalhaes is currently serving his second term as assistant coach under Chael Sonnen, this time on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil 3. His first go-round came during the relatively tame TUF 17, when Sonnen coached against Jon Jones.
In an interview with MMAjunkie.com, Magalhaes let the mixed martial arts (MMA) world know just how much more intense the present season is going to be, with Wanderlei Silva entering the fray.
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizard gave some insight into what caused the on-set altercation between the two coaches, in a scuffle that UFC President Dana White said fans would "have to wait and see" to learn more about.
Magalhaes dishes:
"Chael was using some bad words, and that’s something I’ve never seen him do in all the years I’ve known him. I’ve never seen Chael that aggressive in a situation where there wasn’t a fight. It was pretty intense."
Rumors have swirled that the scuffle was staged to build intrigue for a reality show that hasn't been getting as much attention as originally anticipated; however, Magalhaes puts those rumors to rest.
"I can guarantee it was not staged. Not even close to being staged."
Staged or not, the combustible combination of Sonnen and Silva has made for some great moments already, including some you should refresh your memory with here and here.
If that wasn't enough to tickle your fancy, "Pezao" ranks the upcoming season of TUF: Brazil 3 as must-see television.
"I think this is by far the best one. You’ve got a lot of guys with good experience, guys that once people see, they’ve heard of the guy before even before ‘TUF.’ I think it’s better than the first two seasons (in Brazil), for sure."
Tune into "Fight Pass Network" to see for yourselves.
And after that, Sonnen and Silva will collide in the "Fight Night" main event on May 31, 2014 in Brazil, not UFC 173 as originally expected," so "The American Gangster" can expect plenty of "bad words" when they hook 'em up in hostile territory.
